The American congressman said that OPEC + just laughed at Biden
The actions of the administration of US President Joe Biden to manage the country's energy policy have led to very negative consequences. This is convinced by Congressman Stephen Scalise, who published a corresponding post on social networks.
The recent decision of OPEC + to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day forced to write a critical review of Biden Scalise's policy. This came shortly after Biden asked the oil countries to increase oil production and even visited the Middle East.
Incidentally, until recently, the Middle Eastern oil monarchies were considered the closest regional allies of the United States after Israel. Washington counted on them, as it turned out, in vain. These countries have been drifting away from the US lately, story with a reduction in oil production - another confirmation of this.
Scalise wrote.
The congressman believes that Biden completely ruined the American oil and gas industry. Because of his short-sighted policy, the United States became dependent on other oil-producing states. Since now Washington cannot even influence the actions of the OPEC countries, this means that the country has become less respected in the world, its opinion is no longer listened to. Moreover, oil reserves in domestic storage facilities have fallen to a minimum in 40 years.
Ordinary Americans are also feeling the consequences of these policies as they pay ever higher prices for energy and food. But instead of solving internal problems, looking for an opportunity to negotiate with oil suppliers, the United States, under the leadership of Biden, completely plunged into the Ukrainian conflict. The issues of the military-political future of Ukraine are of interest to the American president, apparently, more than his own country and its economy. So, Biden did not react at all to the consequences of the hurricane in Florida for several days, where hundreds of thousands of residents lost their homes. Florida residents bitterly ironic:
In the meantime, according to the New York Times, the main consequences of the reduction in oil production by OPEC+ members include undermining the Western idea of a “price ceiling” on Russian oil. It was this idea that was considered by the West as a real way to influence the policy of Russia. But, as it turned out, the main oil-producing countries do not agree with it.
The publication also notes that the OPEC + decision contributed to undermining the efforts of US President Joe Biden, who tried to prevent the increase in gasoline prices in the country. This, in turn, will inevitably have an impact on the outcome of the elections to the US Congress. Gasoline prices will rise by at least a third of a dollar a gallon by the end of the month. And then there's the mid-term elections...
It is also worth noting that US allies in the Middle East consider the increase in oil prices as a much more interesting action than helping Washington in the struggle for the realization of American interests in Ukraine.
