Turkish Defense Minister: Navy and Air Force orders issued in case of Greek militarization of islands in the Aegean Sea
The Turkish Defense Minister spoke sharply about Greece's plans to transfer its troops and equipment to the islands in the Aegean Sea. On the basis of a previously signed agreement, the islands in the Aegean Sea are declared a demilitarized zone and have a so-called "non-military status", while being part of Greece.
According to the head of the Turkish Ministry of Defense, if Greece starts the transfer of military equipment and personnel to the islands, then Turkey will take all measures to counteract this.
Hulusi Acar:
The Turkish minister made such a statement during his speech at the National Defense University.
Hulusi Akar added that the relevant orders had already been given to the combat personnel of the Turkish Air Force and Navy.
At the same time, Akar hinted that not Athens itself, but a “third party” could stand behind the intentions to follow the path of militarization of the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. According to the head of the Turkish Ministry of Defense, "whatever the power behind these intentions, we are determined to prevent the militarization of the islands by the Greek army."
Acar:
Earlier, the United States announced its intention to create its next military base - now in the Greek port of Alexandroupolis. It is very close to the Turkish border. In Ankara, this intention is regarded as a threat to Turkey's national security.
