The United States plans to make money on the construction of nuclear submarines for Australia at its shipyards under the defense agreement AUKUS
September marked the one year anniversary of the signing of the Australia-US-UK Defense Agreement (AUKUS). The latter is aimed at creating a nuclear submarine fleet for Australia, and also ostensibly intended to promote cooperation between countries in other areas of defense, such as artificial intelligence and drones.
However, the members of the new bloc do not hide the fact that its activities are primarily aimed at containing China. All three countries have made it clear that in addition to developing a nuclear submarine project for Australia and sharing experience in other areas of defense, they intend to accept other allies in the region, such as New Zealand, Japan and the Philippines, in AUKUS. This will be seen as an Indo-Pacific security agreement.
Regarding the creation of the Australian submarine fleet, not only Canberra, but also Washington has big plans for it. Thus, due to the defense agreement with Australia within the framework of AUKUS, the United States plans to provide orders for its shipbuilding industry.
said Rep. Joe Courtney.
The project for the construction of new submarines for Australia should be ready by March next year. At the same time, the politician is sure that this project will not be the last one.
- emphasized Courtney, speaking of Australia.
- added the politician.
It is obvious that the US plans to make good money on the construction of submarines for Australia.
Recall that in the city of Groton, located in New London County (Connecticut), General Dynamics Electric Boat is located, which is the main contractor for underwater work for the US Navy.
