In Germany, on the day of German unity, a protest action was held under the slogan "Heat, Peace and Bread"
On October 3, Germany celebrates the "Day of German (German) Unity". However, in the country on this holiday, many Germans had no time for congratulations and festivities: they went to protest demonstrations under the slogans “Heat, Peace and Bread!”, “Only a protest will help pay attention to our problems.”
In Berlin, at least 3000 people took part in the demonstration (according to the protesters themselves, about 8000). In the eastern lands, a total of more than 150 Germans protested.
As Uwe Hicksch of Naturefriends Germany says in an interview with Junge Welt, "German unity" is out of the question now. Until now, the eastern and western regions of Germany are very different in terms of wages and the provision of social benefits. And a third of a century after the unification of Germany, the wages of German citizens in the eastern states are on average lower than the wages of citizens of the same country in the western federal states.
Hicksch called the federal government's policy disastrous. It entails the complete impoverishment of the population and, first of all, those of its groups that did not previously have high incomes. Although Chancellor Olaf Scholz promises the citizens of the country "well-being", he constantly switches to the topic of events in Ukraine. But ordinary Germans do not care much about the Ukrainian conflict: they want their homes to be warm so that they can buy food at affordable prices.
The policy of the Scholz government indicates that Germany has finally lost real sovereignty and has become a US satellite, incapable of an independent policy towards the Ukrainian conflict. Sanctions against Russia for ordinary Germans turned out to be sanctions against Germany, and the German government introduced them itself, completely without caring about the needs of its population.
In Germany, according to the protesters, there are many internal problems. For example, for more than thirty years, the obvious manifestations of the social polarization of two regions - the western and the eastern - have not been smoothed out. The government is also ignoring the issue of rising food and energy prices. The migration problem in Berlin was also forgotten against the backdrop of the Ukrainian events.
The actions of Scholz and his entourage look as if they are not at all interested in the aspirations of ordinary Germans. Sooner or later, this will lead to an increase in mass protests. Winter is ahead, and when people start to freeze, far from 3000 people may take to the streets of Berlin, and the protests may no longer be so peaceful.
