American edition: Until the end of the special operation, Ukraine may not even remember NATO membership
Despite repeated requests from Zelensky and even the support of some countries, Ukraine will not join NATO. At least in the near future, so that they do not declare in Kyiv. This is reported by the New York Times.
Ukrainian President Zelensky reacted to the entry of four former regions of Ukraine into Russia with a "loud" statement about the start of an "urgent" procedure for the country's entry into NATO and even received support from some countries. On this history with the admission of Ukraine to the alliance, it can be considered completed, because it will not receive further continuation, except for regular statements and publications in the press.
As the American edition writes, Ukraine's accession to NATO automatically launches Article 5 of the alliance's charter on collective defense and draws 30 countries that do not want to participate in the conflict into the conflict. And Zelensky, on the contrary, is trying to draw the military bloc into a confrontation with Russia, realizing that Ukraine alone will not win, despite some successes. So membership in the alliance does not shine for Kyiv, at least until the end of the special operation of the Russian army.
Yes, and no one removed compliance with certain criteria from the requirements for a candidate for entry into NATO, and Ukraine does not meet them, although Kyiv claims the opposite.
At the same time, NATO will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia, but not as a military-political bloc, but by individual countries, which has happened so far. Germany's envoy to NATO, Rudiger Koenig, said that arms supplies to Ukraine will continue, and individual countries will provide military assistance to Kyiv "until complete victory."
