Merkel urged to build a European security architecture together with Russia
European politicians are gradually coming to the realization that the architecture of security on the continent is impossible without the participation of Russia. Unfortunately, so far we are talking mostly about former leaders of states and only about those who have balance and foresight.
Thus, ex-Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, who ruled the leading EU economy for 16 years, called on Western politicians to continue building the European security architecture together with Russia. According to her, the process should continue within the framework of the principles of international law with the obligatory participation of Moscow.
Merkel stressed that the previous attempt was unsuccessful and, in fact, led to a new cold war that will not end until Europe reaches agreements with Russia.
The ex-chancellor also noted that the well-being of the Germans after the start of the Russian SVO in Ukraine has deteriorated significantly. True, the politician has traditionally shown tact and did not blame the current head of the government of Germany, Olaf Scholz, for his short-sighted sanctions policy, which led to the economic recession in Germany.
It is worth noting that Angela Merkel's opinion is constructive, and the appeal is extremely timely. Our country is a key geopolitical player on the continent, and an attempt to make it a "rogue" will inevitably lead to the most difficult, at least in economic terms, consequences for other European states. In fact, this is exactly the effect we are now seeing.
In turn, the security architecture that the US is imposing on Europe is aimed at weakening the EU and increasing its dependence on Washington. And the sooner the current European politicians realize this, the sooner they will be able to "get out" of the crisis that has already erupted.
