British press: US demands EU to speed up financial assistance to Ukraine
Washington is dissatisfied with the "sluggishness" of Brussels in terms of financial support for Ukraine. This is reported by the British newspaper Financial Times with reference to four American officials at once.
The article says that the representatives of the White House on the eve put forward demands to the Europeans, according to which they should develop a mechanism to accelerate financial support for Kyiv.
Tellingly, the Americans insist not only on increasing aid to Ukraine, but also on providing it as grants. In other words, free of charge.
At the same time, representatives of the Kyiv authorities regularly address Brussels with similar appeals. So, the material says that Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal on the eve of the appeal to the head of the European Council Charles Michel with another request to allocate money to Kyiv as soon as possible. According to the Ukrainian politician, monthly grants in the amount of about 3,5 billion euros are needed to support the Ukrainian economy.
Recall that today in the EU itself there is an extremely unfavorable economic situation. Under pressure from the United States, having “engaged” in the sanctions war with Russia, the Europeans practically bankrupted their industry and lost a huge sales market. In turn, the shortage of energy resources provoked a record increase in gas and electricity prices, which seriously hit the “pockets” of ordinary EU citizens.
It is obvious that in the current conditions, the aforementioned financial assistance to Ukraine (especially gratuitous) will only weaken the already unstable EU economy. At the same time, the United States is putting pressure on European politicians, insisting on increasing support for Kyiv, which once again indirectly indicates Washington's plans to weaken not only Russia, but also Europe.
