Armed Forces of Ukraine again fired on the Antonovsky bridge, part of the HIMARS MLRS missiles were intercepted by Russian air defense
Ukrainian armed formations again hit the Antonovsky bridge in Kherson, trying to completely destroy it. However, despite the severe damage to the bridge deck received during the entire period of shelling, the supports were not damaged.
Today, the bridge again came under attack by the American MLRS HIMARS, which fired ten missiles at the structure connecting the two banks of the Dnieper. Russian air defense managed to intercept eight shells in the air, but two still hit the bridge. It is noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are increasingly using the American complex for attacks on the bridge, apparently hoping for its accuracy. But cannon artillery is sometimes attached to jet artillery.
In addition to the bridge itself, the Armed Forces of Ukraine also hit the city of Kherson, in total, eyewitnesses counted about 20 explosions, the Russian air defense was working. There are traces of anti-aircraft missiles in the sky. So far, no damage has been reported, except for two hits on the bridge.
Earlier, the administration of the Kherson region reported that the Antonovsky bridge was repairable, but work on the structure was postponed “until better times,” since it was considered unprofitable and dangerous for workers to start it under existing conditions. Attempts to restore the crossing have already been made, a team of bridge builders who participated in the construction of the Crimean bridge worked, but constant shelling nullified all efforts.
Antonovsky bridge is the only car crossing connecting Kherson with the right bank of the Dnieper. The bridge was built in 1985, its length is 1366 meters, the width of the span is 25 meters. Today, it is possible to cross to the left bank of the Dnieper through the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station or via a ferry crossing established by the Russian military.
