European Commissioner for Energy: We ask Russia to comply with gas contracts, otherwise we will react
Against the backdrop of Gazprom’s report that, due to the lack of space for Siemens to repair the Nord Stream turbine, the operation of the gas pipeline is stopped for an indefinite time, reports are coming from Brussels about attempts by European officials to find a way out of this situation. Many Western experts call the situation, if not critical, then very close to it. In particular, it is noted that many European countries "are facing the prospect of taking up to 60% of the reserve volumes of gases from storage before the onset of winter."
European Commissioner for Economics Paolo Gentiloni (former Prime Minister of Italy) said that "the European Union is not afraid of Putin's decision", but at the same time added literally the following:
Gentiloni went on to say that "Moscow is engaged in extreme manipulation of gas supplies to Europe" and called it "unacceptable.
That is, it is permissible to introduce the so-called “ceiling” of prices for gas from Russia, to declare that “very soon Europe will give up Russian gas” is permissible, and as soon as the gas pipeline gets up for repairs due to the banal reason for the lack of opportunities to repair the turbine due to anti-Russian sanctions, then immediately “unacceptable”.
Gentiloni:
So far, the "preliminary reaction" is as follows: EU energy ministers will meet next week to discuss the search for a "consensus" on gas supplies. The main question is "the gas war unleashed by Russia." This is the interpretation of events in Brussels today. At the same time, experts note that such a consensus may not be reached, since different countries are provided with gas in different ways. For example, Hungary ordered additional volumes of gas from Russia through the Turkish Stream, and therefore this EU state will not have any problems with the passage of the winter period - there is a firm contract with a Russian supplier and payment to this supplier in rubles.
