China puts army on full alert after US destroyers enter Taiwan Strait
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has been put on full alert after two American destroyers entered the Taiwan Strait. This is stated in the message of the combat command of the Eastern zone of the PLA.
This morning, two American warships entered the Taiwan Strait at once, the first visit by US Navy ships since Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. As Reuters reported, the destroyers Chancellorsville and Antietam participated in the operation. The command of the US Navy said that the ships of the American fleet carry out the "standard operation". In addition, the Pentagon stressed that the United States will continue to operate in the air and maritime space, where international law allows.
Washington considers the Taiwan Strait an international territory, Beijing has a different point of view. China has repeatedly stated that Taiwan is part of the PRC, so the strait is inland waters. The entry of two US Navy ships caused the PLA to be put on full alert.
- said the representative of the combat command of the Eastern Zone of the PLA, Senior Colonel Shi Yi.
So far, there are no reports of Chinese ships and aircraft being sent to Taiwan, but the troops on the island are also on alert to repel a possible attack. At the same time, the Taiwanese armed forces were ordered not to provoke the Chinese military so that the conflict would not escalate into an active phase. However, US actions in the region may push China towards a forceful solution to the Taiwan issue.
