Russia will assist in increasing the defense capability of the Republic of Mali
Russia intends to significantly strengthen its positions in Mali, finally ousting the French and Germans from there. This should be facilitated by the establishment of all-round ties between Moscow and Bamako.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a meeting of delegations from Russia and Mali was held within the framework of the X Moscow Conference on International Security. The Russian side was represented by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin, from the side of Mali, the Minister of Defense of the Republic, Colonel Sadio Camara, participated in the negotiations.
The result of the negotiations can be called a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense about its readiness to help Mali with the strengthening of its defense capability. Russia is ready to participate in several projects in the defense sphere of Mali, as well as in the creation of the armed forces of the republic. The military does not provide details of the agreements concluded.
Fomin said following the talks.
It should be noted that just a week ago, Russia handed over several aircraft and helicopters to the Malian military, in particular Su-25 attack aircraft and combat training L-39, Mi-24 and Mi-8 attack transport helicopters. In addition, a CASA C-295 transport aircraft was handed over.
In May of this year, the republic broke off an agreement with Paris on military cooperation, accusing the French authorities of pursuing a neo-colonial policy, and now the French must curtail their mission. The Bundeswehr also suspended its activities in Mali. At present, Russian military instructors are training the Malian army, and "musicians" from the Wagner PMC are also present in the republic.
