Estonia intends to “close” the Gulf of Finland for Russian ships
Estonia intends to "close" the Gulf of Finland to Russian ships. This will become possible after Estonia unites its coastal defense system with the Finnish one. This was stated by the new Minister of Defense of Estonia Hanno Pevkur.
Estonia and Finland are negotiating a joint missile defense system. According to Pevkur, Estonia intends to unite the coastal defense with the Finnish, thereby "blocking" the Gulf of Finland for Russian ships, since the range of anti-ship missiles "exceeds its width." However, this will be possible only after Finland finally joins NATO.
Pevkur said.
According to the Estonian Defense Minister, after Finland and Sweden join NATO, the Baltic Sea will become NATO's "inland sea", where there is no place for Russian ships.
Pevkur said.
Recall that the coastal defense is armed with Israeli Blue Spear anti-ship missiles with a range of 290 kilometers, while Finland has Swedish anti-ship missiles MTO 85M with a range of more than 100 kilometers.
