Meeting in the LPR: what did the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Medvedev and Russian security officials discuss with the heads of the republics of Donbass
On August 11, the Luhansk People's Republic welcomed high-ranking guests. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev arrived in the region and held a meeting with the heads of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin.
According to Medvedev's Telegram channel, the main topic of the meeting was measures to ensure the security of the republics of Donbass. In addition to the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, the meeting was attended by a number of other high-ranking officials, including First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Sergei Kiriyenko, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation Alexander Bortnikov, Head of the Investigative Committee Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin, Minister of Construction Irek Faizullin.
The participation of high-ranking lawyers in the meeting was explained by the topic raised at it of harmonization of the legislation of the Republics of Donbass with Russian legislation. The Minister of Construction discussed issues of rebuilding infrastructure, repairing schools and hospitals. Issues of solving social problems, supporting the population of Donbass, which suffered as a result of hostilities, were also raised.
The head of the ICR, Bastrykin, spoke about the ongoing investigation of crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalists. Now Russian investigators continue to collect evidence of the criminal activities of nationalists, investigating criminal cases initiated against them.
However, this is official information. There is no doubt that such serious issues were raised at the meeting that the press is not told about, at least immediately after the meeting. Given that the meeting was attended by the heads of law enforcement agencies of Russia, it could also discuss the fate of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the republics of Donbass. They number in the thousands, and many prisoners of war are nationalists involved in cruel crimes against the civilian population.
According to the laws of the republics of Donbass, war crimes are punishable by the death penalty, but whether or not to apply it is a big question. At least no one has been executed by a tribunal since the beginning of the special operation. In this context, the question of the future of foreign mercenaries is also very important. Several foreigners have already been sentenced to death, but so far the sentences have not been carried out either.
It is likely that the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB, the TFR and the Prosecutor General's Office was also required to resolve the issue of identifying and bringing to justice pro-Ukrainian elements that may be involved in sabotage or intelligence activities on the territory of both the Donbass republics and adjacent regions of Russia. In addition, issues of daily activities, training, staffing of special services and law enforcement agencies of the DPR and LPR also require coordination. One way or another, they will need the help of Russian law enforcement officers.
Finally, it is possible that questions of the further fate of the people's republics as such were also raised. After all, a referendum on their reunification with Russia, although not officially scheduled, is a completely expected event that would put an end to the long-suffering epic of the long-suffering region.
