The US Congress again demanded that Biden recognize Russia as a "sponsor of terrorism"
The US Congress again called on the White House administration led by Biden to recognize Russia as "sponsors of terrorism." Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham made a corresponding statement.
Both hardline anti-Russian senators traveled to Kyiv in July, where they met with Zelensky and are now calling for tougher measures against Russia. Last Sunday, they spoke on CNN, where they demanded that Biden recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism because of the situation in Ukraine. According to them, the US should take a tough stance against Russia and "turn it into a pariah" by imposing "even more sanctions."
Blumenthal said.
It is worth noting that this is not the first demand from US congressmen to Biden to recognize Russia as a country sponsoring terrorism. Moreover, calls for this are coming from Ukraine, the Kyiv regime is going out of its way to somehow harm Russia. However, not everything is as simple as Zelensky and his advisers think. Even given that the US is in a confrontation with Russia, Washington is unlikely to agree to such a recognition, as this would mean a complete break in relations, and the Americans do not need it.
This can be confirmed by the latest statements made by the US State Department. At the end of July, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, commenting on the initiative of several congressmen to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism, said that this does not make sense. At the same time, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has already threatened Blinken that Congress will make such a decision bypassing the White House.
