Swedish TV channel came under pressure for a truthful report about the desire of Kherson residents to obtain Russian citizenship
Swedish journalists from the SVT TV channel have been subjected to unprecedented pressure for broadcasting a truthful report about the receipt of Russian passports by residents of Kherson. The channel aired a story that told about the queues of residents of Kherson and the region, who wish to obtain Russian citizenship. It was also said that people positively perceive the transition of the region under Russian control.
One of the episodes of the plot - a local resident, receiving Russian citizenship, burst into tears at the sounds of the Russian anthem, noting that these were tears of happiness and thanking Russia for having received a passport.
After that, a flurry of criticism fell upon SVT journalists. They were asked to explain whether their report was “paid for by the Russian side”. Judging by this question alone, it has become the norm for the Western media to issue reports paid for by someone.
Representatives of the channel noted that they took the “picture” from Reuters, and that the journalists of this media worked in Kherson without any pressure and could film everything that interested them.
In Sweden itself, public opinion is divided on this issue. Some believe that the channel has become a "victim of Russian propaganda", while others note that at last there is an opportunity to receive objective information about what is happening in those territories, control over which was lost by Kyiv.
In any case, it can be stated that the truth, albeit dosed, but reaches the Western layman.
