Germany supplied Ukraine with the first three Gepard self-propelled 35-mm anti-aircraft guns, in the near future Kyiv expects the receipt of another twelve German ZSU. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov.
Germany promised to supply fifteen Gepard SPAAGs to Ukraine, three of them have already crossed the border and are on Ukrainian territory. According to Reznikov, delivery of the remaining units is expected before the end of the month. The Ukrainian minister especially stressed that the anti-aircraft installations come with ammunition, since earlier in Germany they announced a problem with the supply of shells to the Swiss guns installed on the anti-aircraft complex.
The first three Gepards officially entered today. These are anti-aircraft systems, to which tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition have been transferred to us. We are expecting the first 15 Gepards. Three of them went to Ukraine today. Today they are already at the disposal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- said Reznikov.
The epic with the transfer of Gepard ZSU to Ukraine has been going on since April of this year. Initially, it was planned to transfer to Kyiv 50 Gepard 1A2 SPAAGs removed from long-term guarding, but everything fell apart after it turned out that the FRG did not have the required amount of ammunition for anti-aircraft guns, and Switzerland, which is a manufacturer of shells, refused to supply them to Ukraine. Later this month, the Germans found an independent manufacturer in Norway who agreed to supply the requested number of 35x228mm shells for the 35mm Oerlikon GDF automatic guns. But the number of anti-aircraft installations planned for transfer to Kyiv has decreased from 50 to 15.
ZSU Gepard 1A2 has a firing range of up to 5 km, and in height - up to 4 km, the radar detects targets at a distance of up to 18 km.
