Süddeutsche Zeitung: German Air Force planes turned out to be incapacitated right before the exercises
The German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that the Eurofighter fighters in service with the German Air Force turned out to be unsuitable for use in the upcoming exercises due to suspected malfunction of the ejection seats.
At the moment, flights of Eurofighter aircraft are suspended. Reportedly, they will only be used for critical tasks until all problems are fixed.
Problems with the fighters came to light just when German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht arrived at the Air Force Base in Neuburg an der Danube during her familiarization tour of military facilities.
The country's Air Force reported that information about the unreliability of ejection seats was received from their manufacturer. Problems are possible with squibs installed in chairs. The manufacturer informed that there is a suspicion that about 20% of the squibs are faulty. Now, to remove any doubt, it is necessary that experts check all Eurofighter fighters of the German Air Force.
It should be noted that the German Air Force has about 140 such fighters. On Friday, they were supposed to conduct demonstration flights for the Minister of Defense, but they had to be abandoned.
In addition, a squadron of Eurofighter fighters should soon take part in exercises in the Indo-Pacific region, together with partner countries. Therefore, as noted by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the leadership of the country's Air Force seeks to quickly deal with the problems that have arisen.
