In Russia, they were going to deploy the "Safe City" system on the Ukrainian border
The project of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation "Safe City" can be deployed in the near future on the border with Ukraine. Its creators have already requested 15 billion rubles for its implementation in the border areas.
He writes about this in his articleCameras will be put on guard» Kommersant newspaper.
As you know, at present, a yellow level of terrorist threat has been introduced in a number of border regions. This is due to the increased shelling of Russian settlements in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions by Ukraine. With the help of the Safe City system, the authorities want to increase the responsiveness to possible incidents.
The Safe City system includes special software, motion sensors, video surveillance cameras and environmental monitoring. The deployment of the system is planned for a year and a half.
However, there are questions about the implementation of the technical component. In Russia, after the imposition of sanctions, the shortage of devices required for the implementation of the project has increased. However, the creators of the project claim that the warehouses in Russia still have their own equipment for the implementation of this task, something can be produced without problems at Russian enterprises, and the missing components can be purchased in the countries of Southeast Asia. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation has not yet given official comments on the deployment of this system.
Some experts believe that the deployment of the "Safe City" on the Ukrainian border will not seriously affect the security situation in the border areas. After all, this system was created to ensure the safety and protection of public order in cities. Its main task is video recording of what is happening so that emergency services can quickly receive information about fights, common crimes, unauthorized speeches. Also, with its help, you can establish the details of the attacks, which then helps in the investigation of crimes. Accordingly, this system will also help to record what is happening at the border, promptly report on sabotage groups penetrating from the Ukrainian side, but, of course, it cannot become a defense against shelling.
In addition, the deployment period of the system - one and a half years - also raises questions. Border settlements need to ensure security “here and now”, and not in a year and a half, two years or even six months. After all, there is already destruction and victims, and the very presence of a threat from Ukraine in a year and a half is unlikely to please anyone.
