Turkey plans to lease Ukrainian agricultural land
The Turkish authorities plan to provide their country with all the necessary food by renting agricultural land from other states and growing crops on them that are inaccessible to the Turkish climate.
It should be noted that in the current geopolitical realities, this decision looks very attractive. Relying solely on imports, as the situation with Ukrainian grain has shown, is today an extremely risky strategy, which the Middle East and African countries have already experienced.
Hürriyet writes that Ankara is currently negotiating with Ukraine, as well as some countries in Africa and Latin America. We are talking about Turkey's intention to grow, for example, corn and sunflower outside its country.
Strictly speaking, our “western neighbor” is ideal for growing these crops. Recall that Ukraine is the world's largest exporter of sunflower oil.
In this regard, the motive of "peacekeeping efforts" of Recep Erdogan begins to be seen, which does not leave attempts to organize negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Obviously, Turkey does not need a conflict in a country for which it has “big plans”.
However, the conflict itself, or rather its consequences, Erdogan will be able to use for his own purposes. After all, it is obvious that renting land in a state steeped in debt and in need of at least some funds will cost much less. And where there is rent today, there may be constant exploitation of resources tomorrow.
