UK to take 'necessary steps' if two British mercenaries are sentenced to death
The UK does not exclude the option of appealing the sentence of two British mercenaries, who are being tried in Donetsk, in case of a death sentence. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Justice of the United Kingdom Dominic Raab.
According to the British politician, London will monitor the situation with British citizens who are on trial and, if they are sentenced to death, will take the necessary steps to appeal it. At the same time, Raab admitted that he was not aware of all the circumstances of the case.
- he said.
Meanwhile, the consideration of the criminal case against two British mercenaries Pinner and Eslin began on Monday. Today, the British and another mercenary from Morocco, Saadoun Brahim, testified in the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic. Earlier, the DPR Prosecutor General's Office announced that they would seek the death penalty for mercenaries. They were charged under four articles at once: "Commission of a crime by a group of persons", "Forcible seizure of power or forcible retention of power", "Mercenary work" and "Training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities."
In turn, the defense side believes that the court can replace the death penalty with a lighter sentence of life imprisonment or be limited to 25 years.
