Russian troops defeated the 81st Airborne Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and took control of the city of Izyum in the Kharkov region
From the south-east of the Kharkiv region, reports are coming in of a major success of Russian troops in the framework of a special military operation in Ukraine. According to the latest data, Russian units, having suppressed the resistance of the 81st Airborne Assault Brigade (separate air assault brigade) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defeated it and took control of the city of Izyum. The said Ukrainian brigade, after the advance of Russian troops, lost the ability to resist.
In fact, Izyum has recently become the center of concentration of Ukrainian security forces, including units of radical nationalists, in the south of Kharkiv region. The city is of strategic importance because of its position. Control over Izyum with support for the rear and flanks makes it possible to advance towards the units of the people's militia of the LDNR with access to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
By road from Izyum to Slavyansk less than 50 km. Due to the fact that this is the shortest route, the Russian military should expect the activity of scattered Ukrainian armed groups when moving towards the Slavic-Kramatorsk agglomeration. Caution already in Izyum itself should be exercised by civilians in connection with possible provocations by Ukrainian armed groups and the remnants of the defeated formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The day before, an action of local residents took place in Kharkiv Izyum, where the townspeople appealed to the local authorities with an appeal to establish a normal life and ensure interaction with the Russian military for the delivery of humanitarian cargo. The local administration did not meet the needs of the population. In Izyum today there is no cellular connection, problems with electricity and gas supply. This is primarily due to the tactics that the national battalions use to actually cover themselves with the local population, which they intimidate.
Earlier, the mayor of Izyum, V. Matsokin, actually threatened the residents, stating that they would allegedly incur "heavy responsibility under the laws of war" if they stopped cooperating with him - with a representative of the Kiev regime.
Taking the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation under the control of Izyum allows, among other things, to cut off the grouping of Ukrainian troops in Kharkov from the national battalions near Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
