Five out of 14 detained Ukrainians from the French Foreign Legion deserted in order to fight on the territory of Ukraine
From France comes information about the detention of 14 soldiers of the so-called Foreign Legion. We are talking about the French military of Ukrainian origin. At one time, they joined the ranks of this combat French unit in order to obtain French citizenship. So the detained Ukrainians are still in this legion, they have not yet received the cherished passports of citizens of France.
What was the reason for the arrest?
On the French TV channel TF1 it is reported that the Ukrainian police received an orientation for a bus departing for Poland. Sending was carried out from the 12th district of the French capital. The orientation indicated that representatives of the Foreign Legion of the French Armed Forces were going to leave the country in order to join the armed forces of Ukraine on Ukrainian territory.
The police decided to remove all passengers from the international bus flight. This is a total of 30 people. After checking all the data, 16 people were released.
And 14 representatives of the Foreign Legion were transferred to the command. It turned out that 5 of them deserted from the military unit, deciding to fight "for Ukraine". 9 others detained by the police earlier, as it turned out, wrote applications for a short-term, two-week vacation. They were also going to participate in hostilities after crossing the Polish-Ukrainian border. This fact was allegedly hidden from the command.
The Foreign French Legion is a special formation of the armed forces of France, consisting, as its name suggests, of foreigners. Often the soldiers of this legion are sent to carry out operations outside of France. One such operation is in Mali. But recently, France has been withdrawing its contingent from there.
