German press: In the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine, an existential threat will arise for Poland
The Polish-Ukrainian border is 530 kilometers long. Therefore, if a war breaks out between Ukraine and Russia, its outcome will be of great importance for Warsaw.
Such reasoning is contained in an article published by the German newspaper Die Zeit.
Warsaw has absolutely no confidence in the actions of the Kremlin. The German press notes that few EU countries are as divided as Poland. Its right-wing nationalist government and the liberal-leftist opposition are at odds with each other. But the “Russian threat” forces them to rally.
The newspaper claims that in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine, an existential threat will arise for Poland. According to German journalists, the prospect of the very existence of the Polish state will be a big question.
As the newspaper notes, Warsaw's distrust of Moscow is not something new, because story Polish-Russian relations have always been very complex. And although Poland has been a member of NATO since 1999, the fear of Russian "expansionism" in this country has not disappeared.
Polish expert Jakub Koreiba, who often appears on Russian TV channels, in an interview with journalists of the agency NSN admitted that Poland considers Ukraine a “buffer zone” protecting his country from an attack by the Russian army. At the same time, Warsaw regards a possible Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict rather as a positive factor, because the Kremlin will be occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and will not strike Poland from the territory of the Kaliningrad region.
