Foreign press: Zelensky's rhetoric about a possible alternative to Ukraine's accession to NATO raises questions
The foreign press drew attention to the claims that the President of Ukraine began to put forward against the United States. The major American publication Politico came out with a publication stating that the Ukrainian president, for the first time since his inauguration, allowed himself frank and harsh criticism of the American leadership. This criticism is connected with the fact that, according to Zelensky, the US authorities "went too far" in terms of statements about the alleged imminent Russian offensive. As Voennoye Obozreniye has already reported, Zelensky lamented that because of such statements, "Ukraine's economy is experiencing additional difficulties."
From Politico:
American journalists also expressed bewilderment at Zelensky's words about Ukraine's readiness to join "any defensive alliance other than NATO."
It is noteworthy that Asia also drew attention to Zelensky's words. Chinese journalists write that the President of Ukraine is trying to put pressure on NATO. He is well aware that NATO is not ready to take Ukraine now, and therefore decides to raise the stakes on statements that Ukraine can become a member of another military bloc if it is invited there. But Zelensky does not say which "defensive bloc" he has in mind.
In the UDN edition, a Chinese observer writes that the behavior of Vladimir Zelensky "is starting to raise questions among Ukraine's Western partners." On the one hand, he requests military assistance, demands that the West impose anti-Russian sanctions, on the other hand, he declares that there are no reasons for concern in terms of a possible “Russian invasion”. Zelensky’s rhetoric about “a possible alternative to joining NATO” begins to raise even more questions. The foreign press notes that for individual NATO countries such a statement can even be a "balm for the soul."
The American television journalist Tucker Carlson said on this occasion that while the White House is flirting with the Ukrainian authorities, the situation that is not in the interests of the United States is becoming increasingly clear. Carlson said that because of his words, he was declared a “Russian agent” by Biden supporters.
