The Prime Minister of Croatia had to apologize to Kiev for the president's words about actions in cases of war between Ukraine and Russia
In Croatia, they responded to the demands from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to Zoran Milanovic to apologize for his statements.
Recall that the Croatian president said that official Zagreb is equally respectful of both Ukraine and Russia, and therefore, in the event of the outbreak of hostilities, it will withdraw its military from the NATO contingent. Zoran Milanovich also pointed out that in the current situation he considers military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine inappropriate. According to the Croatian President, it is unwise to enter into conflict with Russia because of this.
These statements by the Croatian president caused a wave of negativity from official Kiev. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Milanovich's statements "are of an anti-Ukrainian nature." The Croatian ambassador to the Ukrainian capital, Anica Jamic, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry and told of "deep disappointment" in the words of the Croatian president. Statements were made to the ambassador about "the inadmissibility of anti-Ukrainian statements against the background of Ukraine's defense of its statehood and territorial integrity." Zoran Milanovic's words were declared "personal ingratitude", stating the hope that they do not apply to the entire Croatian people.
MFA of Ukraine:
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic had to intervene, saying that the president's words "have nothing to do with the position of the country's government." The Croatian prime minister had to make an official apology from Kiev for the words of Zoran Milanovic. At the same time, those around the president called these apologies inappropriate, since Milanovich did not show any disrespect for Ukraine.
In Croatia itself, this was called "a precedent indicating that there is a split in the country's power system." The media say that the supreme authorities, as it turns out, do not have a single line on foreign policy issues and are ready to enter into open conflict with each other.
