A Nigerian military delegation visited Ukraine - the specific goals of the visit are only mentioned in general terms
A Nigerian military delegation visited Ukraine to discuss the prospects for military-technical cooperation. A group of representatives of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, consisting of the command of the Ground Forces and the Training Center of the Nigerian Army, held a number of meetings and negotiations with Ukrainian partners.
This was reported by the press service of the state company "Ukroboronexport".
As part of the visit, the Nigerian military visited the 169th Desna training center named after Prince Yaroslav the Wise, where they got acquainted with its structure, material and technical base and the training process. They had the opportunity to observe the training of cadets on simulators and simulators tanks T-72 and T-64, as well as on dynamic vehicle simulators and a multimedia calculation simulator ZU-23-2.
In addition, the foreign delegation was shown a park and firing camp for infantry and a tank track, where Ukrainian servicemen practiced their practical skills.
The specific purposes of the visit are given only in general terms, but it can be assumed that the Nigerian military intends to acquire some of the Ukrainian-made weapons. This is quite likely, because the two countries have previously cooperated in the military-technical sphere. It was Nigeria that became the first major customer for the BTR-3 manufactured in Ukraine. This state also bought BTR-4s that proved themselves not in the best way, which Iraq refused for technical reasons.
Ukrainian armored personnel carriers acquired by Nigeria even took part in the hostilities of government forces against the Islamists. In particular, in the spring of last year, the militants managed to capture several combat vehicles, which they then had to destroy during the retreat.
