British press: Against the backdrop of statements by the head of the British Foreign Office about the intention of the Russian Federation to establish a protectorate over Ukraine, gas prices for the British increased by 8 times
In Britain, not only sanctions measures that could be taken against Russia “in the event of an attack on Ukraine” are being discussed, but also a possible Russian response from Russia. Attempts are being made to analyze the situation related to how Moscow can respond to the West in case it introduces new anti-Russian sanctions.
The British Daily Mail discussed the statement of a senior British official, whose name was not disclosed. According to him, as a Russian response to Western sanctions, a reduction in the volume of energy supplies to the European market may follow. In turn, this may lead to a new jump in gas prices. The British official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, says that in such a situation, the British government will have to take emergency measures in order to somehow stabilize energy prices within the country.
Statistics are given, according to which today European consumers on average depend on Russian gas by at least 35%.
From the statement of an official who commented on the statement of British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, who promised sanctions against Russia in the event of an “invasion of Ukraine”:
Against this background, the opinion of ING analysts is given, who say that retaliatory Russian sanctions, if these sanctions can affect the restriction of energy supplies, Europe will not withstand. First of all, the crisis will hit Germany, the countries of Eastern and Northern Europe. Then it will begin to spread further across the European Union.
The CEO of a major British energy company, Stephen Fitzpatrick, says that if Russia restricts gas supplies to Europe, then for British families the prices could be about 2000 pounds sterling per 1 cubic meters of "blue fuel". This will ruin most British farms.
From the British press:
“Against the background of fears of the outbreak of war in Ukraine, gas prices for consumers in Britain have increased 8 times. All this happened against the background of how Foreign Minister Liz Truss announced the desire of the Russian Federation to establish a protectorate over Ukraine.
British journalists reminded Liz Truss how she posed for tank at the borders of Russia. In particular, it is noted that in Russia this “signal” was noticed, and “now ordinary citizens will have to pay for it out of their own pockets.”
Additionally, it is noted that London, in addition, ordered to send its special forces to Ukraine.
