Britain is developing a new package of sanctions against Russia in the event of an “invasion” of Ukraine
Despite all the statements by Russia about the absence of plans to invade Ukraine, the West continues to assert the opposite and prepare retaliatory measures in the form of sanctions. They decided to develop their own version of the "punishment" of Russia in the UK.
The United States and Great Britain, which are the main "defenders" of Ukraine, but refused to fight for it, decided to punish Russia "for the invasion" with further restrictions. If Washington has already prepared several different packages of sanctions and is only waiting for a go-ahead for their introduction, then London is not ready yet. Therefore, the country's government decided to develop a "nuclear" version of sanctions against Moscow, as they say, "in the event of a military conflict."
According to the British press, the UK is following the American path, preparing several options for restrictive measures, including the toughest, already called "nuclear." It provides support for Russia's disconnection from the international interbank system from SWIFT, as well as measures against Nord Stream 2. Details were not provided, but it is emphasized that new sanctions should weaken the Russian economy.
According to press reports, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is pushing for sanctions to include measures against the Russian gas pipeline, as well as "Russian oligarchs" who support Putin. Johnson also plans to create a so-called "sanctions coalition", which should include all the G7 countries, in order to force Russia to comply with the will of the West with a "united front of sanctions".
Meanwhile, it is not ruled out that British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace will travel to Moscow in the near future for talks. According to British media, Johnson may instruct Wallace to accept the invitation of Russian Defense Minister Shoigu and visit Russia in the coming days. The last time the heads of the defense departments of the two countries met was in 2013 in London.
