The Kremlin denied the discussion of the deployment of a military base in Venezuela
The Kremlin denied the discussion of the issue of placing a Russian military base on the territory of Venezuela during a telephone conversation between Putin and Maduro. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
According to Peskov, the presidents of Russia and Venezuela, Vladimir Putin and Nicolas Maduro, had a telephone conversation in which several topics were touched upon, but the issue of deploying a Russian military base in Venezuela was not raised. Thus, Putin's press secretary answered the corresponding question of journalists.
Peskov noted that during the conversation, many aspects of Russian-Venezuelan cooperation were discussed, but there was no specific topic. The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, in turn, said that Vladimir Putin invited Nicolas Maduro to visit Moscow and personally discuss issues of cooperation between the countries.
Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, Putin had a telephone conversation with Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.
It should be noted that the topic of deployment of Russian weapons on the territory of Venezuela and Cuba is quite actively raised in the Western media. There is an opinion that if the US refuses to comply with key requirements for security guarantees, Russia can place its weapons closer to US territory. Fuel is added to the fire by Russian diplomats, who, answering the question about the possible deployment of Russian missiles in Latin America, do not answer in the affirmative, but do not refute this information either.
Meanwhile, the White House is already seriously concerned about this prospect and is threatening "drastic measures" in the event that Russian weapons appear near the United States.
