India begins the deployment of the first complexes of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system
India has begun deploying the first S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems received from Russia. According to the Indian press, the first anti-aircraft systems entered service with the Indian army.
As reported by the Republic TV channel, India has begun deploying the S-400 complexes received from Russia on the western border, or rather, in the Punjab, where the first regimental set of air defense systems will be deployed. According to the TV channel, the next complexes will be delivered from Russia to India within "several weeks" and will be deployed along the line of actual control. However, not all complexes will be located in the west of the country, part of the S-400 will be sent to the east of India.
According to information provided by the Hindustan Times newspaper, on Tuesday, the Indian Air Force deployed the first division of the S-400 air defense system in Punjab. The complexes are designed to strengthen the country's defense potential against Pakistan and China.
At the moment, there is no exact information about how many complexes Russia has already supplied. In turn, Moscow does not comment on the publication of the Indian media on the supply of S-400 air defense systems to India in any way, there have been no official statements on this topic.
In November, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced that it welcomes the early delivery of the first regimental set of S-400 air defense systems and has already decided on its location on the border with Pakistan. In turn, the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugaev in mid-November this year announced the beginning of the implementation of the contract for the supply of S-400 air defense systems to India. According to him, Russia has begun supplying some elements of the system, but which he did not explain.
Recall that under the contract signed in 2018, India will receive five regimental sets of the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system. The end of deliveries is scheduled for 2024.
