NATO outlines terms for compulsory English language learning for officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are obliged to master English as part of the program of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, and the timing for this is not determined at all in Kiev. Stasis Paldunas, adviser on professional military education at the NATO office in Ukraine, said that this is required for the country to join the alliance.
The entire officer corps of the Ukrainian army must master the English language by 2024. They should not only understand, but speak English and freely participate in all conversations. According to a NATO representative, the program is quite ambitious and provides that from 2024, half of the training courses for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be in English. In addition, teaching in Ukrainian higher educational institutions will also be conducted in English.
- said the adviser, but stressed that not all Ukrainian universities have a training base and training materials that meet NATO standards.
Note that back in 2015, Poroshenko, who held the presidency of Ukraine, set the Ukrainian Armed Forces the task of mastering the English language in a year in order to "quickly switch" to NATO standards. According to the plan of Peter Alekseevich, the officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were supposed to learn the language in a year, and then begin to train the rank and file.
This year, NSDC Secretary Aleksey Danilov suggested making English the second state language in Ukraine, who announced the need to start studying it in kindergarten. According to Danilov's plan, the English language should protect Ukrainians from "Kremlin attacks".
