Borisov spoke about the plans for testing the modernized strategic missile carrier Tu-160M2 of the new construction
Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov made a little clarity in the test schedule for the modernized Russian Tu-160M2 missile carrier of a new construction, having told about this during his visit to the UEC-Perm Motors enterprise.
During a visit to the enterprise, Borisov was asked a question about testing a new Tu-160M2 missile carrier, assembled from scratch at the Kazan aircraft plant. As you know, new NK-32 engines of the second series are installed on the missile carrier. As the Deputy Prime Minister explained, the flight of the new missile carrier is planned for early next year. In the meantime, the plane will be jogging at the airfield.
- said Borisov.
As a source in the OPK previously reported, the management of the Kazan aircraft plant does not plan to make the first flight of the Tu-160M2 of a new assembly in December, the aircraft will make several runs along the runway as part of the tests, but will not take off. The date of the flight has not yet been set, it is "floating" and depends on the decision of the management.
Prior to that, the aircraft plant stated that the aircraft manufacturers are faced with the task of lifting the plane into the air by the end of the year. The contract for the production of a pilot batch of ten Tu-160M2s was signed in 2018. Aircraft of the new assembly and deeply modernized combat bombers will not differ from each other, however, they received different markings: Tu-160M for modernized combatants and Tu-160M2 for those built from scratch.
As part of the signed contracts, 160 combat missile carriers Tu-15 of the Russian Aerospace Forces must be upgraded to the level of Tu-160M, and ten new Tu-2027M160 strategists have been built by 2 with the start of deliveries in 2023.
