Repair and recovery vehicles specially designed for the Arctic are entering the stage of state tests
Subdivisions of the Russian army serving in the Arctic Circle will soon begin to receive repair and recovery vehicles and other similar equipment specially designed for operation in Arctic conditions. The decision to form new Arctic repair and evacuation units has already been made.
The Russian military department confirmed the creation of special repair and evacuation units that will be deployed on the territory of the main garrisons deployed in the Arctic. The task of such units is the maintenance and repair of the entire line of equipment in service. Heavy repair and recovery vehicles REM-GT and technical reconnaissance vehicles MTR-G have been specially developed for carrying out work in northern conditions.
As reported "News" citing military sources, both vehicles are in a high degree of readiness and will soon enter the state testing stage. After that, the organizational structure of the repair units will be determined.
Heavy REM-GT was developed on the basis of the DT-30PM two-link tracked conveyor. The main purpose is maintenance, repair and evacuation of all types of equipment. The MTR-G technical reconnaissance vehicle is based on a two-link conveyor of the GAZ-3344-20 tractor. Her task is to get to the damaged equipment, assess the damage and carry out minor repairs.
Both vehicles are specially adapted for operation in arctic conditions and are capable of performing some work using manipulators when the weather does not allow the crew to be outdoors for a long time.
The use of DT-30PM and GAZ-3344-20 transporters as a platform is justified. This technique is very familiar in the Arctic and has proven its worth. On the basis of transporters, a whole family of machines has been developed for use in the Arctic, ranging from mobile canteens and bakeries to anti-aircraft missile systems.
