French press: Because of Russian PMCs, Paris is losing influence in Africa
Due to Russian PMCs, which train local government troops, Paris is gradually losing its influence in Africa. For France, which has traditionally had its own interests on this continent over the past several centuries, this state of affairs has become a real disaster.
The French newspaper Le Parisien writes about it.
Of course, France does not intend to put up with this, but it cannot stop this process. The Central African Republic (CAR) military, trained by Russian instructors, is said to have thwarted all attempts to overthrow the legitimate government. They are being undertaken by militants of radical local movements. At the same time, it is known about the contacts of these movements with Paris.
By the way, the French press persistently calls Russian instructors "PMC Wagner". In the CAR, they are considered almost national heroes, so a monument was erected in honor of the Russians in the capital of the country, Bangui.
Le Parisien claims the private military company has close ties to the Kremlin and operates in 23 African countries. Its activities allegedly lead to the curtailment of the military presence, as well as the weakening of the political and economic influence of France on African states.
It even got to the point that they plan to announce sanctions against the "Wagner Group" at the level of the European Union. In particular, this topic is planned to be discussed at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries, which is scheduled for December 13.
It seems that the resources of the African continent are too important for France to relinquish control over them so easily. And in order to avoid this, Paris does not hesitate to use any means, including secret support of dubious organizations.
