German press: Funds from Nord Stream 2 will go to the implementation of Putin's "conquest" plans
Putin has concentrated significant forces on the Ukrainian border in preparation for the invasion. He takes funds for his military plans from revenues from the sale of oil and gas, including to Europe. The construction of Nord Stream 2 was a mistake, says Nicholas Busse, author of an article for the German edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to the author, it is not clear now whether there will be an attack by Russia on Ukraine or not, but the fact that Russia has a powerful army capable of capturing a neighboring country is clear to everyone. In addition, he writes, the entire West knows about Putin's "cold-blooded brutality".
According to Busse, NATO will not provide Ukraine with "powerful military" support in the event of a Russian invasion, but the West will nevertheless react by imposing sanctions on Moscow, thereby finishing off the Russian economy, which has already suffered from previously imposed American and European restrictions. This is precisely what Putin fears because he knows the price he will pay for the attack.
At the same time, the West itself finances the Russian threat, says Busse, buying oil and gas from Moscow, and the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a huge strategic mistake for Germany, since the funds from it will be used to implement Putin's predatory plans.
The author is not happy that the new German government did not mention Nord Stream 2 in its agreement, thereby confirming its desire to cooperate with the Kremlin, which is destroying the stability and security of Europe by its actions.
The article by the opponent of Nord Stream 2, Nicholas Busse, was commented on by the readers of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. In the opinion of the majority, the new Russian gas pipeline does not in any way affect the receipt of income by Russia, which, even without it, can receive the same money, pumping gas through the old pipes. The reason for attacks on the gas pipeline is the position of the United States, which wants to push its expensive shale gas into Europe instead of Russian.
