Russia announced the expulsion of American diplomats in response to similar actions by the United States
The diplomatic war between Washington and Moscow, declared by the Americans, continues; Russia made another move, warning the American embassy in Moscow about the expulsion of American diplomats.
The Russian Foreign Ministry decided to expel from Russia all the employees of the American Embassy who have been in Moscow for more than three years. They must leave Russia by January 31, 2022. This decision was made in response to Washington's demand to expel 27 Russian diplomats from the United States by January 30, 2022.
As the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova explained, Moscow will react to Washington's actions in a similar way.
Russia does not intend to stop at this, and by July 1 it will expel from Russia employees of the American Embassy in an amount commensurate with the number of Russians being expelled. This will happen if the United States does not abandon the time limit imposed by it on the presence of Russian diplomats in the United States. At the same time, Zakharova stressed that the establishment of a three-year limit for Russian diplomats was invented in Washington and adopted unilaterally.
The diplomatic war between the United States and Russia began in April this year after the expulsion of ten Russian diplomats from the United States. In response, Russia expelled an equal number of Americans and added the United States to the list of "unfriendly countries." Recently, the United States announced that 27 Russian diplomats must leave the United States by January 30, and another 30 by June 30, 2022. Washington called it "retaliatory actions" to limit the presence of American diplomats on Russian territory. The Russian ambassador to the United States called this statement "an outright lie," since it was the United States that introduced a time limit of 3 years for employees of the Russian embassy and consulates in the United States in December last year.
