According to the report, the factory sea trials of the minesweeper began on December 1, 2021, the ship entered the Gulf of Finland, on board the crew and the commissioning team of the Sredne-Nevsky shipyard. The ZHI program is designed for a month and a half and will end in 2022 in January. After that, the ship will go to state tests. The timing of the transfer of the minesweeper to the Russian Navy has not yet been reported.
The Pyotr Ilyichev is the sixth Project 12700 Alexandrite minesweeper, laid down at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard in July 2018. Launched on April 28, 2021, after which it was delivered to the outfitting wall for outfitting work. Initially, it was reported that the ship will be handed over to the Navy in the summer and will become part of the Pacific Fleet. Then there were reports that the transfer of the ship was postponed to the end of the year, now only the beginning of tests is announced.
The PMO ship received the name "Pyotr Ilyichev" in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Pacific Fleet sailor Pyotr Ivanovich Ilyichev, who closed the embrasure of the Japanese bunker on August 18, 1945 during the Kuril operation in the battles for the Shumshu island.
Project 12700 was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau for the Russian Navy. These mine defense ships have a displacement of about 890 tons, a length of 62 meters and a width of 10 meters, and a crew of 44. Currently, three more PMO ships of this project are under construction at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard, which are at different stages of construction. The tenth ship in the series has not yet been laid down.
