Israeli Heron Mark-II drones to help India track border with China
Israeli Drones Heron Mark-II will help India monitor the border with China. The Indian Air Force received the first reconnaissance drones leased from Israel. This is reported by the Indian news agency ANI, citing military sources.
According to the publication, the Indian Air Force received two Heron-type drones of an improved design out of four leased from Israel. Two more similar drones should arrive shortly.
It is noted that these drones have already been sent to the border area with China, they will be deployed in Ladakh to track the demarcation line between India and China, passing in this mountainous area. As emphasized in the Indian military department, the resulting drones have improved characteristics and are more resistant to interference, in contrast to the earlier Heron UAVs in service with the Indian army.
The publication does not disclose which Heron-type drones are in question, but it was previously stated that India in mid-January this year entered into a contract with Israel for a three-year lease of Israeli reconnaissance medium-range Heron Mark-II drones for deployment on the border with China. The agreement provided for the delivery of four drones, with the first two to arrive in the summer, and two more by the end of the year. However, delivery times have been shifted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Indian Ministry of Defense, commenting on the lease agreement for the Israeli drones, explained that the choice of the Heron Mark-II UAV was made based on their characteristics.
