Sweden pledged to side with NATO in case of "someone attacking Europe"
Sweden does not intend to join NATO, but in the event of an attack on Europe "by someone" it will side with the alliance. Also, Stockholm is counting on NATO assistance in the event of an attack on Sweden. This was stated by Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.
According to her, Sweden does not need to join NATO to ensure its security, over the past years, freedom from military alliances has proven its worth, so it was decided not to apply for the country's membership in the bloc. At the same time, Stockholm guarantees that in the event of hostilities against European countries, the Swedish army will not stand aside, and requires reciprocal guarantees from Brussels.
- said Andersson, who is also a member of the Social Democratic Party of Sweden, which opposes joining any military-political alliances.
Recently, the number of so-called "hawks" in favor of joining NATO has increased in Sweden. They say that the main argument in favor of such a decision is the strengthening of the country's security against the background of the growing threat from Russia. Several parties are in favor of joining NATO, including the largest opposition party, the Liberal-Conservative, but the Social Democrats are in power who oppose this.
Despite its so-called "neutrality", Sweden has a rather negative attitude towards Russia, especially against the background of the latest hype made by the Western media about a possible "attack" on Ukraine. In Stockholm, they did not even rule out sending their servicemen to provide military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. By the way, Swedish military instructors have been training Ukrainian military for several years.
