American press: The Biden administration proposes to curtail the program of military assistance to Ukraine so as not to provoke Russia
The American press publishes material that provides information on how the administration of President Biden and NATO structures are going to respond "to a possible offensive by Russian troops in Ukraine", as well as to the statements of Vladimir Zelensky about "an impending coup." Recall that the day before, the President of Ukraine said that with the support of Russia in Kiev, they are preparing a coup with an attempt to remove him from the presidency.
In the publication of the Wall Street Journal in this regard, it is stated that "on the sidelines of the United States and NATO, there is a discussion about how to respond to the Russian threat to Ukraine."
Bad news for Ukraine is that major NATO functionaries and representatives of the Biden administration are in favor of maintaining political interaction with Moscow. Proposals to cut all contacts with Russia are rejected.
An additional negative signal for Kiev is that, according to the WSJ, there is a whole circle of large government officials in the US administration who are determined to reduce the degree of tension in relations with Russia. In particular, it is proposed to suspend arms supplies to Ukraine, curtail the military aid program and even reduce the number and scale of NATO exercises in Eastern Europe so as not to provoke Russia. It is noted that Russia can perceive such a step positively, which "at the same time will reduce the likelihood of a large-scale armed conflict."
The American newspaper, citing sources in the Biden administration, writes that at the same time Washington is considering the possibility of the United States being included in the so-called "Minsk format". Earlier, Russia opposed this, arguing that all points on de-escalation were already spelled out in the Minsk agreements.
In addition, it is noted that in Washington, there are opposing forces in the issue of relations with Russia. Thus, the US State Department and the US Department of Defense are calling for "strengthening the containment of Moscow," and Biden's close circle in the administration prompts the president to take the path of de-escalation. At the same time, it acknowledges the fact that the United States is afraid to enter into a large-scale conflict with Moscow against the background of growing contradictions with Beijing. Confrontation on two fronts, the United States may not pull.
