Russian Marines Day
Today, their professional holiday is celebrated by "black berets" - servicemen who are or were previously in the ranks of the marines.
At the legislative level, the memorable date was enshrined in a 1995 presidential decree. However, if we consider that the first mentions of this type of troops are found in the XNUMXth century, then today's holiday can be considered quite young.
For the first time about the "sea soldiers", this is how this branch of the army was called in Russia, it became known in 1698. The first division of the marines was formed from the crew of the ship "Eagle". At that time, their main task was to protect merchant ships.
However, already on November 27, 1705, by decree of Peter I, the first regiment of "sea soldiers" was officially formed. It was the last Tsar of All Russia and the first Emperor of All Russia that began to use the marines as a striking force, and the date of the formation of the above-mentioned military unit formed the basis of today's holiday.
This year, the Russian marines are 316 years old. Moreover, her history it is difficult to call it simple. These brave fighters managed to take part in almost all armed conflicts in which our country participated. At the same time, this branch of the military was reorganized more than once and even disbanded.
Despite the enormous contribution that the marines made to the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War, the First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev in 1956 considered that the country no longer needed this type of troops.
However, after 7 years, the top leadership of the USSR realized that such a decision was erroneous and an order was given to form the next formation of marines, which exists to this day.
It is worth noting that the marines are rightfully considered one of the most efficient combat arms. The tasks of the "black berets" include capturing or destroying enemy targets in the coastal zone, holding bridgeheads for aircraft landing, protecting naval bases and coastal facilities, etc.
The Marines wear black uniforms, which is why these troops are nicknamed "Black Death". At the same time, depending on the unit, the marines have their own talismans: bear, griffin, dolphin, panther, etc. They are depicted on the stripes next to the main symbol of this type of troops - the ship's anchor.
