Data on the death of 52 people at the Listvyazhnaya mine in the Kemerovo region have been confirmed
Mine rescue work has been resumed at the Listvyazhnaya mine in Kuzbass. At the same time, the death of 52 miners has already been officially confirmed. This is despite the fact that initially it was reported about "1-2" dead.
According to the latest information, the death of 46 people in this Kuzbass mine occurred as a result of an explosion. Six more people died when they went out to help.
The Governor of the region Sergey Tsivilev visited the clinic for miners, where several victims from the Listvyazhnaya mine were taken. According to him, the mine rescue work was suspended for some time due to the accumulation of explosive gas in the mine.
At the moment, work is underway to isolate a section of mine workings with a volume of more than 250 thousand cubic meters. This volume will be filled with methane. After the explosion hazard has been reduced, search and rescue operations will continue in other areas. To isolate the site, representatives of one of the branches of the paramilitary mine rescue unit were involved.
According to the latest data, there are 38 miners and 11 mine rescuers in the hospital. The most common injuries diagnosed in them are craniocerebral injuries. 10 people have gas poisoning.
The likely cause of the explosion is a sharp increase in the concentration of methane in the mine, which led to the formation of a methane-air mixture. The commission, formed in the Kemerovo region, continues to work to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
Acting Head of EMERCOM of Russia Alexander Chupriyan:
We express our condolences to the families and friends of those killed at a mine in the Kemerovo Region.
