After meeting with representatives of Afghanistan, the head of the PRC Foreign Ministry called on the West to cooperate with the Taliban
Between Abdul Ghani Baradar, acting the deputy head of the Afghan government, which consists of representatives of the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, today held talks in the capital of Qatar, Doha. After meeting with representatives of Afghanistan, the head of the PRC Foreign Ministry called on the West to cooperate with the Taliban and lift sanctions against them.
The information about the meeting was published by the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Wang Yi noted that at the moment the Afghan state is going through a difficult transition from chaos to the establishment of order in the country. Therefore, Kabul faces acute humanitarian and economic problems. The new authorities will have to make a whole range of management decisions in order to create a modern, prosperous state.
The country needs to defeat terrorism and cope with the challenges it faces. According to Wang Yi, for the successful implementation of comprehensive reforms, Afghanistan will need the support of the world community, including the United States and other Western states.
It is not only Beijing that is changing its attitude towards the Taliban, but, it seems, Moscow too. Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian authorities are considering the possibility of excluding the Taliban * from the list of banned organizations. For this, representatives of the Taliban, according to the President of the Russian Federation, must demonstrate their desire for a peaceful settlement of the intra-Afghan conflict and not encroach on neighboring states.
We will remind that earlier representatives of the G20 countries (and neither Vladimir Putin nor Xi Jinping attended the online meeting) refused to recognize the Taliban as legitimate authorities in Afghanistan.
