British press: Japan watched with alarm as the ships of the Russian Navy and the Chinese Navy pass the Tsugaru Strait between the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu
In Japan, they watched with alarm as the ships of the Russian Navy and the Chinese Navy for the first time pass the Tsugaru Strait between the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu. This was followed by the reaction of the deputy head of the Japanese government, Yoshihiko Isozaki, who issued a statement.
This information was published by the British newspaper The Times.
A senior Japanese official claims that on October 18, 10 Russian and Chinese warships passed through the Tsugaru Strait, heading from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific Ocean.
Isozaki pointed out.
The Japanese defense department notes that the passage of the Russian-Chinese squadron did not violate the norms of international law, but at the same time, Japan noted "increased risks."
The British press explains that the width of the strait is 12 nautical miles at its narrowest point, and the territorial waters of Japan end three miles from the coast (the norm applies precisely to this waterway). That is, the ships of Russia and China were all the time in international waters, without violating the Japanese sea border.
The actions of the two fleets are connected with the recently concluded joint exercises of Russia and China "Sea Interaction - 2021", which took place from 14 to 17 October. The British publication does not exclude that in this way Moscow and Beijing reacted to the creation of a new military-political alliance AUKUS by the United States, Britain and Australia.
