Nancy Pelosi evacuated from Vatican: reasons reported
US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been evacuated from the Vatican. She had to shorten her program of stay in Rome.
It is reported by the American television channel CBS News.
The special correspondent of the channel in Rome, Chris Livesey, informs about the reasons for the urgent departure of the congressman. Leaving the Vatican and the Italian capital of Pelosi was forced by the unrest that broke out, the cause of which was the tightening of antiquarian restrictions in the country. Thousands of citizens took to the streets to protest against the infringement of their freedoms.
Actually, the reason for the indignation of the Italians was not Nancy Pelosi at all, but the decision of the authorities to introduce special passes. Without them, it is impossible not only to visit cafes, concert halls and other entertainment establishments, but even go to work. They are issued to three categories of people: those who have had COVID-19 in the last six months, vaccinated and who have negative results of the analysis for coronavirus, made no more than a day ago.
For security reasons, amid intensified protests in the Italian capital, Nancy Pelosi had to cancel her reading at the Vatican Mass and shorten her multi-day stay. Before leaving, she managed to meet with Pope Francis, discussing with him a number of important international topics.
Nancy Pelosi first took part in the work of the US House of Representatives in 1987, as a representative of the Democratic Party. Now she is the speaker there. She turned 81 this March.
