American edition: "West-2021" showed Russia's readiness for war with NATO
The large-scale strategic exercises Zapad-2021, which took place at the training grounds in Russia and Belarus, showed Russia's readiness for a military confrontation with NATO. This is the conclusion reached by the author of an article for the American edition of The National Interest, Mark Episkopos.
Russia and Belarus are deepening their military ties more and more, as exemplified by the large-scale joint strategic exercises Zapad-2021, which took place on the territory of the two countries, the author writes. According to the results of the exercises, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian and Belarusian armies could in a short time create interspecific groupings and plan military operations in any direction.
Episkopos emphasizes that nominally "West 2021" was not directed against any particular country, but in fact Moscow and Minsk worked together to repel the offensive of NATO forces.
The exercises were held simultaneously on the territory of the two countries, they were attended by up to 200 thousand military personnel, 80 aircraft and helicopters, almost 800 combat vehicles, including 290 tanks, 240 artillery pieces and 15 ships. During the maneuvers, the Russian army used its military innovations, including combat robots, drums Drones and other military equipment.
As a result of the exercises, it became clear that military cooperation between Russia and Belarus is only deepening and may become even closer in the future. The maneuvers showed that Russia is quite ready for a war with NATO.
Such statements were appreciated in the Baltic countries, calling on the alliance to strengthen its positions on its eastern flank.
