Sturmtiger: a formidable self-propelled gun in augmented reality
"Sturmtigers" were created to destroy fortifications and battles in urban environments. From 1943 to 1945, 18 self-propelled guns equipped with a 380-mm assault mortar were converted from line tanks. A projectile hit of this caliber was fatal to almost any structure.
The Sturmtiger self-propelled guns participated in battles almost until the end of the war, however, due to their small number, lack of suitable targets, unreliability and supply problems, they did not have a noticeable effect on the course of hostilities.
To restore the missing copy, the museum has teamed up with Wargaming. With the help of Microsoft HoloLens and Google Tango augmented reality technologies, a virtual portal appeared in the wall of the museum building, leading to the Prokhorovka map, along which the classic Sturmtiger model from World of Tanks rides.
The project "Sturmtiger in Augmented Reality" was first presented at Tankofest-2017. The technology has made it possible to obtain much more information for anyone interested in combat vehicles. Visitors can see the internal self-propelled device or shooting in slow motion. Graphical tips display the thickness of the armor plates, allow you to compare them with the armor of other vehicles, as well as find out additional information.
All the details of the experiment at the junction of new technologies and military stories see the video from Wargaming.
