Serbia intends to purchase a batch of Russian-made Mi-35P helicopters

Serbia may receive MI-35P attack helicopters, negotiations on the purchase of a batch of rotary-wing aircraft are underway with Cyprus. This was reported by the Cyprus mail news agency.

According to the publication, Serbia intends to buy 11 Mi-35P attack transport helicopters from Cyprus, which are in service with the National Guard. If successful, Belgrade will increase the number of Russian-made attack helicopters, and Nicosia will have the option of purchasing Western-made helicopters, although it is not yet known which ones.

The Mi-35Ps in question were purchased by Cyprus from Russia in 2001, and in 2007-2008 they underwent modernization with adaptation to night flights. A total of 12 helicopters were purchased, but the Cypriots lost one in 2006.

The Cypriot Defense Ministry does not comment on the likely deal, but military sources confirm interest in the sale of helicopters, since cooperation with Russia may "cost a pretty penny" due to US sanctions. Currently, all helicopters are in working order, the agreement on their maintenance was signed with Russia in 2013 and will expire soon. However, Cypriots are afraid to sign a new one due to pressure from the United States and Europe, and scheduled repairs are scheduled for 2021-2022 and 2026-2027.

Serbia traditionally purchases Russian weapons and has close ties in the Russian defense sector. Moreover, Cyprus is asking not so much for the entire batch of 11 helicopters, the deal may cost from 150 to 300 million dollars.

Another plus of the Serbs' purchase of the Cypriot Mi-35Ps is the presence in the Serbian Air Force of a more advanced version of this helicopter - the Mi-35M.

Mi 35M Serbian into completely different helicopters, different engine, other equipment, etc. Outwardly, they are similar. Kiparski's helicopters are already in need of serious repairs and are expensive, so at the end they will be close to the price
new. So if you would have been at a price for nothing then yes, but it is better to buy new ones, and there is a wide choice of Mi 35MS, Mi8 AMTSH VN, (Mi17SH) Mi28 NM even Ka 52 M and missile weapons for a lot of serious and rolling them in Syria. The purchase is doubtful and why, except if someone from the Serbs received a good "gift"? smile

Cyprus has the old model Mi-35P - based on the Mi-24P with a 30-mm fixed twin. Instead, the Milians in 2020 launched a new Mi-35P with a movable 23-mm twin.

... the Mi-35P helicopter received new weapons, a surveillance and sighting system with a third-generation long-wave matrix thermal imager, a high-resolution color camera with a laser rangefinder, a movable cannon, Whirlwind missiles and other new elements.

Hands would be cut off by those who assign names to helicopters - two different machines with the same model name.

And then excuse me, Stas suffered:
-Serbs have long wanted to get rid of the French Gazelles, issued under license back in the days of Yugoslavia.
    - Now the Russian Federation is engaged in the implementation of two foreign contracts for the supply of "Phoenix".

      150 is, "not so much"

For a unit from 13,6 million, almost three times cheaper. Why not, since, of course, planned repairs are putty, then, of course, at the expense of Serbia. And the overall price will rise, but the cars will be like new.

150 is, "not so much", but 300 is, frankly, a bit too much, more than 27 million for a used helicopter ........

It turns out that they buy turntables that are being repaired. They plan to do the repairs and possibly modernization themselves. And if they buy cheaply, and also modernize / renovate with small expenses, then there may be a benefit. And if the purchase + repair / modernization does not = the price of a new one, then there are obvious rollbacks.

This is what the conversation is about. Better 6-8 new ones than a dozen old ones.
