Britain to order systems for dumping cargo from A400M transport aircraft
18
The British military has announced a tender worth £ 50 million. From its winner, Britain will order airborne cargo drop systems from Airbus A400M transport aircraft.
It is reported by the British portal UK Defense Journal.
According to the terms of the tender, the system should provide air dropping of combat vehicles weighing up to 16 tons or up to 40 containers with a total weight of up to 12 tons. It must be fully integrated with the A400M design. This means that the installation of this system will not require changes in the design of the transport vehicle.
Testing of systems for dropping cargo from British A400M aircraft should start in late 2022 or early 2023. And by 2024, they should have reached a state of "initial operational capability."
At the same time, the winner of the tender will have to provide service maintenance of the systems for 10 years from the date of their start of operation, that is, until 2034.
The A400M is a turboprop military transport aircraft created by the European company Airbus Military. Great Britain is armed with 20 such transporters. In terms of the number of such aircraft, it ranks second after Germany, which has 33 A400M.
