Polygon Termez: Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers will be used in exercises near the Afghan border
The Russian Defense Ministry is using long-range Tu-22M3 bombers during a joint Russian-Uzbek exercise near the Afghan border. This was reported by the press service of the military department.
Four Tu-22M3 long-range bombers were drawn to participate in the exercises at the Termez training ground in the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan. The planes have already been transferred from the airfields of permanent deployment to the operational airfield in the Saratov region, from where they will operate.
It is planned that the Tu-22M3, having taken off from the airfield, will fly to the Termez training ground, where they will carry out a group bombing strike at the conditional militant camps and ammunition depots. Covering bombers while performing a combat mission will be provided by MiG-29 fighters of the air defense forces of the Air Force of Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, at the Termez training ground in Uzbekistan, the joint forces of special forces have worked out sabotage behind enemy lines. Mi-171 and N-215 helicopters were used to deliver servicemen to mountainous areas. Special forces soldiers parachuted with the use of elements of mountain equipment from a height of 25 meters, after which they carried out an operation to destroy the camp of the conditional enemy.
In total, about 1,5 thousand servicemen of the Armed Forces of Russia and Uzbekistan were involved in the exercises. The exercises are being conducted against the backdrop of a deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, where the offensive of the Taliban * militants continues (banned in Russia as terrorist).
